The Tung Auditorium
The Tung Auditorium is a brand new high specification concert hall based in and operated by the University of Liverpool. Designed by local architects using cutting edge acoustic specification this purpose built venue will showcase a variety of musical performances including solo, chamber, choral, orchestral jazz, folk, electro-acoustic and experimental music.

The Tung Auditorium team approached Kind to help them build a bespoke website for the venue which would include an integration with their box office system, Spektrix. They wanted the website to be inclusive, accessible and give a real sense of what the Auditorium was about. The challenge was to bring to life a venue that was in the process of being built and create a site that would help drive ticket sales as soon as the venue was ready to open.

Effective and fast ticketing integration
As this is a music venue the primary focus of the website had to be selling tickets. This meant the team at the Tung Auditorium needed an effective, fast and reliable ticketing system integrated into their site. We integrated Craft CMS with Spektrix to create an automated process that works efficiently for both the auditorium and ticket-buyers.
Accessible and user-centred design
To make the site fit its primary purpose of selling tickets and inviting audiences to engage with a new venue, the design had to be simple, clear and easy to use. It needed to convey the vision for Tung Auditorium and appeal to a wide range of users. We created a design that leads users through what’s on, where the venue is, who the venue is for and importantly how to book tickets. Overcomplicating the design would act as a barrier to users, so our focus was on clean, descriptive design and minimising the number of clicks through to popular destination points.
Flexible structure built to develop as the Auditorium does
As a brand new venue and website. We needed to build a structure that could grow with the organisation as it develops. With this in mind, we built flexible templates and multi-use components that would enable the Tung Auditorium team to create and manage a number of pages themselves as and when they need to. We also trained members of their team so they were confident in making these updates, giving them the freedom to maintain their own site without developer intervention and ensuring they continue to get a real return on investment from their new website.
