2023-2024 Impact Report
A note from our leaders
As we approach our 10th birthday this summer, we’re reflecting on what keeps us going. That is the belief that creative work can be a genuine force for good.
This year reinforced that belief. We gifted a complete brand strategy and identity to Base51, a local charity doing vital work with young people. Choosing to give that work freely, because we could see the difference it would make, reminded us why Kind exists.
We certified our website as climate-positive and continued our 1% for the Planet commitment, donating over 25% of our profits to environmental charities. And we took over running People, Planet, Pint in Nottingham, creating space for others doing this work to connect over a drink and honest conversation.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about deepening our relationships with existing clients and finding new ways to amplify the impact of organisations tackling the climate crisis and social inequality. We’re also keen to explore how we can better measure the real-world impact our work creates, moving beyond the work we create to understanding the change it helps achieve.
We’re still learning, still evolving, and still committed to proving that you don’t need to compromise your values to build something that lasts.

Environment and sustainability
Certified carbon positive by 2025
In progressKind was founded in July 2014 and from day one, we’ve been collecting data on our energy usage, travel and purchases that all contribute to our total greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2023, we signed up for the World Land Trust Carbon Balanced programme, which aims to protect biodiversity around the world. The programme also gives us access to an emissions calculator tool, which we are using to calculate our footprint for each year of our operation. We certified our website as climate-positive in February 2024, proving we can take meaningful steps even while working on the bigger picture. Time constraints have meant our full footprint calculation isn’t yet complete, but we remain committed to this goal.
This year
- Certified our website as climate-positive
- Continued data collection for historical emissions
Next year
- We pledge to offset twice our emissions to date

Community
Donate 25% of profits to charity by 2025
CompletedWe’re members of 1% for the Planet, which requires us to donate a minimum of 1% of our turnover to environmental non-profits, however, half of that donation can be made ‘in-kind’ through pro-bono work or volunteering.
Our conversations with charity partners have taught us that cash donations have a much bigger impact than time, so we aim to continue making donations in cash.
We’ve maintained our commitment through another year, donating 9% of profits in cash (plus 13% in-kind) in March 2024. Over the past three financial years, we’ve consistently maintained our 25% target, proving that this commitment is sustainable and core to how we operate.
This year
- Maintained our three-year average 26% of profits donated as cash
Next year
- We pledge to continue donating a minimum of 25% of profits as cash
Move to an independently owned bank by 2025
CompletedThis year
- Completed migration to Starling Bank in December 2023
- Now processing 95% of business transactions, including invoice payments, through an independently owned bank
Fully review our supply chain and identify improvements
Not startedNext year
- Create a survey, checklist and minimum score for suppliers to ensure value alignment
- Review existing suppliers against checklist and identify improvements

Workers
Improve our employee development process
In progressWe found that our previous employee development process was not as well aligned with Kind’s values and organisational goals as it could have been.
We’ve now implemented an improved employee development process that includes guidance for career and personal development, clearly-identified and achievable goals, and 360-degree feedback.
The next step is to integrate social and environmental goals for both individuals and the company.
This year
- Implemented new professional development process for all team members, with clearly-identified, achievable goals and 360-degree feedback mechanism
Next year
- We will update our professional development process to include social and environmental goals for both individuals and the company
All staff to participate in external professional development
In progressThis year
- Continued to encourage team participation in external courses and workshops through the professional development process
Next year
- We will continue to check in with our team on their progress at monthly review meetings
100% of the team to have time to volunteer supporting community or environmental projects
Not startedThis year

Review the direct and indirect impact of our work
Not startedKind was certified as having an Impact Business Model, due to working exclusively with purpose-driven organisations.
We’re for everyone who’s making a change for good, and while we do see many of the positive impacts our work is helping to create, measuring the impact of our work will help us to concentrate our efforts where they are most useful.
